Grand Floral Rose Parade, the tradition continues...

We made it!! (ALL PARADE PHOTOS HERE) I was looking forward to taking Lacy to this event ever since I was pregnant:) This is a tradition in my family with SO many memories. And of course, in high school I also marched in this parade playing my trumpet throughout the LONG route(I also did the Starlight parade a few times). We were hoping to take Lacy to the parade last year and even had Eddy's mom fly in for the parade and all the festivities that go along with the Portland Rose Festival. Well, leave it to Oregon weather, last rained...and I mean RAINED. So we did not go! And because we missed, I wanted to go SO badly this year. The weather forecast was not great, they were saying showers were likely during the morning. But, we decided to grin and bear it and go for it!
So, although it was June, we literally had to pack for a winter outing, with winter gear PLUS rain gear. PLUS, all the odds and ends you need for a little one. So, Saturday morning, off we go! We arrived by 9am and were able to sit front row on a block with an open church offering, most important, bathrooms, but also coffee, water and punch to all parade goers. How great is that! Plus, our location is right near the end of the parade, so almost every single band plays one last time as they go by. Obviously, I enjoy that for many reasons!

We knew that this would make for a long day for Lacy and for a little one who refuses to miss out on a thing, would stay awake for the entire outing. did she do? GREAT! Pre-parade we snacked, colored in the streets with chalk, went on walks, played with bubbles, not to mention just people watching! Since we were at the end of the parade route, by the time it actually reached us it was Lacy's usual nap time. Even so, she clapped, danced, and waved to all the fun passing by.

Now, how was the weather? Except for a 5 minute drizzle, we stayed dry!!! YAY!!! That was a big help. I was anxious about penning up a toddler in a stroller for 3 hours BEFORE a parade started if the weather turned on us:) Phew!

It's MOVE!!! Once the parade is done, to help prevent people from leaving trash and things behind the street cleaners come literally 30 seconds after the last entry. Talk about a scramble!!! It's not just a little sweeper, they SHOOT out the water as they go(pictured below) and come in an army of sweepers. Again, fond memory:) Oh, and my dad got sprayed this year!
So there you have it. I got to introduce Lacy to a special tradition and we had a great time. As you can see in this photo, Lacy decided to stay awake even during the car ride home! Well, actually she stayed awake the entire day, skipping her nap, hyped out on all the fun. She did fine and even rallied for church the following day. However, this afternoon when we got home, we discovered that Lacy had a 103 fever! That is only fever #2 for her, but she is doing well and is on doses of meds to hopefully break that fever:) Other than trip.

More fun from our Portland weekend...

After the parade, Ma'am and Papa's was definitely the perfect place to entertain Lacy for the remainder of her day WITH NO NAP:) After playing with the plethora of toys inside, we headed outside for some peaceful sandbox play. At first, Lacy was NOT into the sand lingering on her hands, feet, or clothes, but with a little coaxing from momma, she soon coped by repeatedly saying "brush, brush, brush" while wiping the off her fingers or toes. By the end, she actually was giggling when momma buried her feet, playing peek-a-boo with her toes!

After seeing my blog, my friend and professional photographer liked the first photo and played around with it, giving me these results. Check out her blog for more of her great photos and her oh, so cute little Simon! Emily Weaver Brown
On Friday, Lacy and I got together with Shannon and her almost 14 month old daughter, Sophia. Shannon and I were school buddies all the way from elementary school through high school graduation! We also attended the same church(and she still does along with my parents). Very fun to get together in the next stage in life! Little Sophia is such an adorable little peanut, makes total sense why her parent's gave her that nickname! I did not get any good photos, so I recommend visiting Sophia's blog to get a better look at how cute she really is!
